1 SET YOUR INTENTION

Define what you aim to achieve with your new habit. Understand the purpose behind your goal and how it aligns with your broader aspirations.

2 MAKE A PLAN

Specify when and where you'll undertake your new habit, and break the process into manageable actions.

3 KEEP IT SIMPLE

The more complicated and time-consuming the new habit is, the harder it will be to stick to. Keep it simple to succeed.

4 SET REMINDERS

Set an alarm to cue you to your new habit, or place visual reminders in strategic locations to keep your goal top of mind and encourage routine practice.

5 HABIT STACK

Build new habits by linking them to existing ones, using the current habit as a natural cue for the new behaviour. This makes it easier to remember and carry out.

For example, after you brush your teeth, look in the mirror and take a few deep diaphragmatic breaths. Or when you’re doing your nightly skincare routine, add in face brushing after cleansing.

6 CREATE NEW TIME

For example, if you want to start your day with a node clearance, try setting the alarm 5 minutes earlier and making it the first thing you do before getting out of bed.

7 KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE PRIZE

When a change feels most difficult, think about the benefits it will bring and why you initially set the intention, to boost your motivation.

8 BE PATIENT & KIND TO YOURSELF

Recognise that forming a new habit takes time, and may have setbacks along the way.

Patience and self-compassion can help you navigate the ups and downs of habit formation.

Just hang in there - you can do it!

9 BEGIN WITH A 14 DAY COMMITMENT

While 14 days is generally seen as a short time to form a new habit, initial progress can definitely start within a two-week period.

Although habits need longer, consistent practice to become automatic, a 14-day commitment is a good place to begin.

10 REWARD YOURSELF

While the long-term advantages of your new habit are the ultimate reward, short-term incentives can help boost your motivation.

Choose rewards that are meaningful to you and that don’t undermine the habit you're trying to establish.

Consistency is key, so follow these tips, and your new habit will form in no time.
