Pre & Post Surgical Treatments Aid Recovery

Surgical procedures place a significant demand on the body...

And the lymphatic system is often affected during the healing process.

Swelling, discomfort, and reduced mobility are common after many types of surgery, especially when lymph nodes or soft tissue have been involved.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) offers gentle, targeted support to help your body recover more comfortably and efficiently.

By encouraging natural lymph flow, MLD helps to:

  • Reduce post-surgical swelling and inflammation

  • Support tissue healing and recovery

  • Improve comfort and mobility

  • Assist in clearing metabolic waste from the affected area

  • Enhance overall healing outcomes

MLD can be beneficial before surgery to prepare the tissues and after surgery to support the body as it recovers.

Surgeries that MLD can be beneficial for...

Clients often seek lymphatic support following:

  • Surgeries involving lymph node removal or disruption

  • Cosmetic procedures (liposuction, tummy tuck, breast surgery, facelift, BBL, body contouring)

  • Orthopaedic procedures

  • Dental and facial surgeries

  • Abdominal or pelvic surgeries

Why MLD Helps...

The lymphatic system is responsible for fluid balance, immune function, and clearing inflammation. When it’s compromised or overwhelmed after surgery, fluid can collect and healing can slow down. The gentle, rhythmic movements of MLD help re-direct fluid, reduce congestion, and support the body’s natural repair processes.

Safe, Gentle & Effective...

MLD is always performed with care, working around surgical sites, scars, and drains as needed. Your treatment plan will be tailored to your specific surgery, stage of healing, and comfort level.

Scar Therapy with MLD Eltham

Scars can sometimes interrupt the natural flow of the lymphatic system, leading to swelling, tightness, or pockets of fluid becoming trapped above or around the scar.

This is especially common with surgical scars such as caesarean (C-section) scars, abdominal surgery scars, or any area where the tissue has healed tightly.

Scar therapy combines gentle hands-on techniques with supportive technologies — including low-level laser therapy (LLLT) — to help soften and mobilise scar tissue.

When scar tissue becomes more flexible, the lymphatic vessels are better able to regenerate and reconnect through the area, allowing fluid to move more freely again.

How Scar Therapy Helps

  • Softens tight or thickened scar tissue

  • Encourages lymphatic flow through and around the scar

  • Reduces fluid buildup above the scar

  • Improves mobility and comfort in the surrounding tissue

  • Supports the body’s natural healing and repair processes

Low-level laser therapy has been shown to promote cellular healing and increase tissue pliability, making it an effective option for scars that feel tight, raised, or restrict movement.

Scar therapy is gentle, non-invasive, and tailored to your stage of healing.  It can be helpful months — or even years — after surgery or injury.
